Does anyone have a suggestion where one could go to find funding for setup and start a museum for oil, gas and geology with a area for the story of the people, here in Florence?
We do have a museum that is old, needs help and houses alot of information in there, telling the story of the people and cultures who worked the industry and support businesses who originally coming in from Penn. We would love to see a new structure built that would tell the whole story of this area. The thought is since the first oil well here, is still pumping and the whole towns startup history is based on this drilling. A story could be told via interactive displays and inform the public. All this from James McCandless of Penn., about 1880's and Standard, Continental and several other drilling companies starting here. The oil and geology groups could really tell a great story and inform the public and school kids in this "green" times.
We have some fabulous architecture too! Including the original James McCandless log cabin, his mansion and several other homes of worthy note.

Considering the mining museum in COS doesn't do very well, I don't think an oil and gas museum would do well in Florence. Fascinating history though.

^If that isn't ever a case of a facility in the wrong place, I don't know what is. Colorado Springs is not the place for a mining museum, especially adjacent to the Air Force Academy.
