I've been here for about a year and I've found several restaurants worth recommending. My new favorite place is Inari's in Palisade - unique food, good flavors, nice wine list, and friendly service. All of their vegetables are fresh and locally grown. They actually have nice presentation too. I also enjoy both sushi restaurants, preferring the atmosphere downtown. Garfields in Redlands is the place to go for fresh seafood, and you can choose how you'd like it prepared. Redlands Mesa Grill at the golf course serves a great Sunday brunch, though their hollandaise leaves something to be desired. My favorite brewery to dine at is Kannah Creek. It has the best food and you can actually have a conversation with your dinner guests and hear them.

good mexican food?
You have to drive a bit...but next time you are on I-70, get off at Rifle exit, and head north on HWY 13 (through town). At the North end of town, just past the firestation on the right is a little mexican place called El Burrito Loco. It's a little restaurant, and a mercantile store in back. The waitresses don't speak much english, and the menu has misspellings, but the food is authentic and incredible. Worth the stop on your next trip East!

Nobody's mentioned Nepal yet?
The Nepal Restaurant (now on Main, used to be in the Alpine Bank building) is wonderful. I don't get in there nearly often enough, but they're terrific.
Pablo's Pizza is another--fun, funky atmosphere, great pizza.
Pablo's Pizza, Grand Junction Colorado
I know that many around here like Dolce Vita....but IMO, they're veeeeeeeeeeery overrated, and not that good. Of course, I have an Italian spouse whose own cooking puts that stuff to shame, so take me with a grain of salt. If we do go out for Italian, we go to Il Bistro Italiano-excellent service, and they change the menu frequently and have specials that incorporate locally grown foods and wines.

I lived in GJ from 1977 to 1991 Left and now I am back since 2005. Not much has changed in restaurants except the owners. Dolce Vita is rated as a 5 star restaruant. The last time I was there I hosted a party of 17. I sent three drinks back first from a dirty glass, the second from something floating in the glass. The third, a button from the bar gun was in my glass ( 7-Up) The owner was bar tending. Not a free drink or any thing offered for the issues. The food was overpriced for the quality and taste. In my haste to pay the bill I did not notice there was an 18% gratuity added for this large party. I still paid an additional 20%. That was my fault, but I would think the waiter would have said someting. I have not and will not go back. The Winery is ok, not what it used to be. Garfields is inconsitant nothing to brag about. Mexican food, the only place I remember as being good is on 7th Street. Los Reyas. I have not been there for over 10 years. The best Steak House in this town is either Outback or Roadhouse, that tells you something.
In the years I have been gone, I can't believe how the city maintains this place. It is the dirtiest town I have lived in for a city this size. There are still no street lights,( not even in the new subdivisions) try driving up to redlands at night, especially in the winter and try to read a street sign. The side streets are trashy, weeds are not maintained, very disapointing. I am off the subject so I will close.

If you want authentic Mexican food, get the stuff off the lunch trucks. It'll give you the runs and everything.

Italian cuisine
Don't forget LaPaninoteca! Only open for lunch unless you have a party over 10 and then Maria will cook for you Saturday night. This is a VERY authentic Italian lunch spot on 7th street, just off of Walnut. She makes her own bread and cheese. The mixed-matched silverware and dishes add to a real Italian feel. But the food is the real draw here. The Lavazza coffee is a perfect way to end the meal. I love to see Maria, making sandwiches wearing wide-legged jeans and cute shoes. Try the bruschetta!
