$300.00 is pretty good!! Believe it or not I am a native of Colorado, but have NEVER been skiing in the Mountains, have never really seen the point of spending all that money. What we did for fun was play crack the momma, Dad would pull us behind the Jeep or horse and try to make mom fall off of the inner tube, was a BLAST!!!

haha sounds like fun yea i wanna board but i really dont wanna spend all that $$$ so i am thinkin i will board in rural back country areas that arnt resorts

Yea and belly whop down the sledding hill, or have a horseback rider give us a flying start pulling us at the top, building snow forts, caves, snow ball fights, cops and robbers( nope did not turn into a criminal because we played with toy guns either) etc. We did not need to pay other people to entertain us we had an imagination and parents that did too. Still don't feel I have to pay to be intertained all the time. We had nothing but as I look back I would not trade. That was some of the happiest times. Cross Country skiing is a blast too and doesn't cost a fortune. I can fall on my b*tt just as well.

Ya know, you just might love Leadville. Housing costs are lower, I am told at this time, but since Climax shut down, the area is struggling. Most work at the resorts and commute, some on buses. Sounds right up your alley, if you seriously know what you are doing. Only the well heeled can live in those areas Ski Cooper etc. Lots of ski bums there. Also a college. I truly believe you should look into it. You cannot get any deeper into the Rockies than Leadville.

looked into leadville and was gonna try it but decided for job reasons that evergreen was best i could have the rockies with al denvers amenties close by for jobs ect, but when i am older and richer i think i am gonna live in summit county or lake or eagle county up near 10,000ft until then i am gonna settle with 8000 ft in west evergreen!

Rural areas of Colorado, though they share the same problems of other areas--many are unique to a western plains, deserts and mountains. In the east, rural areas did develop independent economies because of better fertile land and water resources and self sufficient communities developed. In the west, these communities are less because they did not have the resources to develop. So water abundant areas have much more small towns, villages, cities that are self sustaining. In addition, there are many remote areas of Colorado in the mountains that are considered frontiers and wildernesses to this day. So if you want to try, you can suffer the angst and travails of surviving like some of our ancestors. I do not have the abilities. I admire many people who live, work and struggle in many of these areas and we can learn plenty from them.

I think Jazzlovers opening posts indicates some true conditions of these areas. It helps to dispel the myth of the west that has been created in the media and culture. Many of our ideas are the "West of the Imagination".

i dont know if backcountry is the best thing for a beginning boarder ...maybe some smaller hills but backcountry is much more dangerous especially in CO...i mean im definitely down for some hiking and hitting up backcountry but we should take some avalanche classes and should have proper gear like beacons,shovels,kits ....i know someone in CO ive been talkin with who is serious bout the backcountry and he said he would bring me around once i was ready

yea ideally i'd like to buy a board and slide on it for free lol. resorts jack up price too bad so yea after i get some more experience and avalanche info def wanna board through the woods!!!

Aha so you really are a city boy at heartNot the pioneer or trapper you profess to be. Don't get me wrong, I think maybe what you are doing is wiser but ----------Not quite the picture you wanted us all to paint of you. tisk tisk, shame on you. Thats OK tho.
