Default Moving to Colorado

I am looking to buy some land in the Fairplay/Alma area, small amount but enough to build a second home on. I would like to be able to have another home in Colorado to use during the summer time, and keep the one I have in Little Rock for the winter. We love the Central and Western parts of Colorado, we have been coming out for the past several years during the summer. Now we are ready to retire and would love to have a place out there to spend summers. Anyone have any advice on that area or have suggestons to help me with this plan?

We just completed a second home in this area - it is halfway between Alma and Fairplay. Land is readily available - we had a bit of difficulty locating a builder ... best of luck, Sandy

Default Check out Grand County

Before you make any decisions, I would spend some time driving around the state, just to make sure you like the area. Personally, I have to recommend Grand County. More specifically, Grand Lake.

Grand Lake has a very cute main street, and it a great little town. There is a real sense of "community" in the area, which I especially appreciate. While many people enjoy the area in the winter for its great snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, etc, my favorite is the summer. The three lakes are beautiful to look at as well as to fish and boat on. Hiking in the national parks and forests is virtually limitless and there's always plenty to do in the town. The local repertory theatre is also very enjoyable. Plus, there is an ample amount of national forest and parks around, so you know the area won't be overbuilt.

You can check it out more at grandlakechamber.com.

Hope that helps!

I'm not sure if you're still looking but I work in real estate in the area, have lived here for around 9 years, and would be happy to help with any information on builders and land that I can provide. I've built three times myself and have had good experiences each time. I can definitely provide you with names of good people that are great to work with.

My family and I love living here. The air is clean and there is an unreal amount of land to explore and wildlife to take in. You have to be able to handle winter though. The winters can be challenging. However, late spring through early fall is unparalleled.
