We are going to be in Montrose in a few weeks and would like to get some ideas of where to go.

We are making this trip to decide if we would like to live in this area. So what I am looking for is nice neighborhoods/areas (street names would be great!) in Montrose as well as any suggestions for surrounding areas.

Thanks!!

Visit Ridgway and Ouray while there. Some great food in Montrose at Camp Robber and The Stone House. Do you have a job there?

Lots of threads on here about Montrose. Good luck to you.

You should stop by Black Canyon of the Gunnison also, it's the main tourist attraction for the town and really cool

Good to know, thanks. No job we will be self employed, that's pretty much a requirement now days to move to a small town.

I hope that you have a very well-thought out and realistic business plan. Montrose and west central Colorado, in general, is an extremely difficult place in which to succeed in a small business--probably one of the more difficult places in the whole country in which to succeed over the long term.

^ what jazz said.

I had a friend who moved here to "strike it rich" with his business. He's back home now after loosing literally everything. What I learned about this area, if you are not related to someone, or if you are not established, and I mean 10 years or better, getting or doing business is really hard.

Anyway, good luck to you. There's lot of very nice neighborhoods in Montrose (stay away from the cattle feed lot), and if you want a bit out of town there's a great subdivision to the south on HWY 550. Personally I like the older area and the tree lined streets around the hospital. Montrose has the conveniences you want, Safeway, Walmart, Target, JC Penny's. Every fast food place known, except for Carl's Jr for some reason.

Oh and I think it's still open, The Red Barn on Main Street, get a buffalo burger.

A person can lose everything in their own hometown. It doesn't take moving to Montrose to achieve that.

You're welcome. I had dinner there on the 3rd, great food. Fire in the fireplace when it was 100 degrees outside was odd though.
