Yes, my wife & I considered building in Vallecito as it is such a beautiful place but decided that 9 months of the potential to have winter at any time was not for us. Wonderful place to visit though and much of the area around the lake is "pre-burned" with much of the fuel gone now. Those charred areas on the mountainside are ideal places to build. In the end though, the desire to be closer to health care & downtown Durango became more important to us given our ages so we bought land on the Florida Mesa instead. Sure is a beautiful place though.
