Are you referring to the Silverton Railway?

If that is what you are referring to, yes, it still runs. Here's the link:
Home Page - Durango&Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango, Colorado

My husband and I go out there every Memorial Day weekend for the Ironhorse Classic (cycling race); you race the train through the mountains as it runs from Durango to Silverton. Great fun!

Yes, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is alive and well. You should also check out the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, running from Antonito, CO to Chama, NM (The Official Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad Web Site). This is an outstanding trip and is much less crowded and touristy than the D&S. I've ridden both many times--my favorite is the C&TS.

The Durango and Silverton is a mighty fine line, but the Cumbres and Toltec is just total MAGIC.

Another, smaller, shorter but still charming steam train line is Georgetown Loop Railroad: Historic and Scenic Train Ride in Colorado's Rocky Mountains.

the Cumbres and Toltec has the most varied and vivid scenary, going deep into wilderness. It also has a great high meadow stopping point in the middle. Best of all, it has some monster steam engines, big, black badass brutes.

However, all three lines work hard to stay authentic, and each offers fantastic scenary. They all also have interesting towns at both ends of their trip, but Chama is my favorite.

My own personal bottom line is that even though I enjoyed them all tremendously, I had a rare and wonderful "perfect day" on the Cumbres and Toltec.
