Planning a trip to Ouray in a couple weeks.. haven't been there in 20+ years. What is the road like up to Yankee Boy Basin? Can I do that in a 4WD Dodge Durango? (4.7 litre V8) I remember being petrified riding a motorcycle over to Telluride via Black Bear pass... don't think I'll try that one. Any ideas for relatively tame scenic drives in the area would be great. thanks!

You should be ok. There's been thunderstorms in the afternoon so your trip should be in the morning. Ouray may be a tad more crowded that you remember it was 20+ years ago (pretty much insanely crowded). Have fun!

Ouray Colorado - Come Visit

Yankee Boy Basin
This easier trail is especially sought out by photographers for its spectacular explosion of wild flowers in the late spring and early summer season and for its serene waterfalls. The last two miles may be very steep and rough; you may want to park and hike the remaining distance to the base of Mt. Sneffels.
