My fiance is up for a job in GJ with his company and we will possibly be moving there in a month or two. We currently live near Chicago and I work as a Critical Care Paramedic. I have been looking for EMS jobs around GJ and I can't seem to find any. I have 10 years experience a paramedic, but none on a fire department, and all the jobs in EMS seem to be FD related. I am curious if I'm going to be able to find a job with having to take my FF1 and FF2, because I don't really have any desire to become a firefighter. Thanks!!!

Have you seen GJ's website ??

City of Grand Junction

"The GJFD utilizes dual-role (EMS and Fire) personnel and single role personnel (EMS only) in the delivery of fire and emergency medical services."

Also,
"On July 1, 2006, the City of Grand Junction Fire Department became the sole provider of ambulance transport services in the Grand Junction Ambulance Service Area (ASA). "

So they may be the only game in town for paid ambulance based Paramedic in all or most of Mesa county. Most anything else will be all-volunteer services. But they may also have a fairly large staff if providing transport-only outside their Fire district.

GJ is not anything like Chicagoland.

About the only thing that Grand Junction has with Chicago is that Obama has been to both places.

Thanks Reed, I saw that too on their website, but they aren't hiring. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye out.

He wasn't welcome here-that's for sure.

^^^^That's not a fully accurrate statement. From what I saw on the local news channel, he looked quite welcome to his supporters. There were even some people who were pissed off that they got locked out because the whole shebang started about a half hour early. Would be more accurrate to say that he wasn't welcome to some people.
