I have several job opportunities in the Denver area. Some of the areas are Englewood, Centennial, and near downtown. I have narrowed down three areas in which to live but was wondering which would be a better route (time, stress, winter driving conditions). The first is North Evergreen and the main highway would be I-70. The second choice would be Kittredge using highway 74 and the third would be Indian Hills utilizing highway 285. What, in your opinion, would be the best commute? Thanks a bunch!

I don't know about the other two but I would think I-70 would be pretty crowded unless you are able to avoid the rush hours. I drive from Parker to Just north of downtown and work shift work so most times I use I 25 without a problem. Sometimes I use E-470 to I-70 and it doesn't get bad until the elevated section of I-70 .

I-70 and US 285 are 4 lane roads, the Kittredge road is 2 lanes and is very frustrating. Otherwise, I-70 is faster to downtown locations, and 285 is closer to Centennial and the south. Between the 2, Rt 285 has fewer and less severe accidents. I have commuted on all 3.

As mentioned before, if you can avoid rush hour, which really isn't that long in Metro Denver, your choice is less critical.

Thanks for the advice guys! I guess 70 might be the best route for me. I would be leaving the house very early in the morning so it sounds like I would miss any morning rush hour traffic.

I think your commute from Indian Hills down 285 would give you more choices depending on which direction you are going from the canyon. You could go South/East on 470, along 6 into Dowtown, or I70 if need be. You could also vary routes based on weather, construction, and/or road conditions.

North Evergreen/I 70 is the easiest and fastest route/location.

It is also on average the most expensive area. There are some small pockets of neighborhoods that are much less expensive though.

Location, Location, Location !!!!

I guess supply and demand works. :-)

Oh yes, one very important factor. Many newbies come to Colorado to ski and visit the mountains. The closer you are to I-70, the faster you can go skiing. However, when we lived in Indian Hills, it was a fairly quick trip through Evergreen and Soda Creek to I-70, especially on weekends. Still, my buddies in Genessee always made it there before me.

I just moved to the area from NYC. We live in Sunset Ridge which has an Evergreen address but is right up behind the Kittredge Post office. I leave the house at 630 am and travel either on Rt 74 or thru Indian Hills to downtown and have NO traffic at all. At night I come home at about 530-6 and there is traffic coming out of the city on 6 but only traffic on 470 on rare occassions. Indian Hills is an area that is a bit more rural than the others and I think it is a bit further from a store. Check sunsetridgehoa.com. FYI there are a number of homes for sale in this area. Prices ranging from about 525,000 plus.Good luck. Where are you moving from?? If you want more info you can email me at dbakalor@comcast.net.
