There are plenty of hotels that allow pets and some allow them to stay without a deposit, Des Moines would be okay to stay but you might check on the outside of the city for a quieter hotel. I would stop and fill up at about 1/2 tank and let the critter have some exercise about then as well. That gets you both out for a stretch and nature break.

Have a safe trip and wave to me when you see the exit sign on I-80 for West Liberty, Iowa.

We moved from New York in June. Stayed at La Quint in Davenport, Iowa. Hotel was ok. Clean enough with free breakfast. The next night we stayed in the La Quinta in North Platte, Nebraska. This hotel was updated and beautiful! I would definitely recommend it for anyone traveling through Nebraska.

Oh and we traveled with our cat and dog. They stay free at La Quinta.

I'm looking into staying at the Quality Inn Events Center in Des Moines. They say they have a security guard patrolling the hotel and parking lot at night. My car may or may not be full of my things...Should I trust this and make reservations???

Actually we were there early this summer for a conference, very nice place and the parking is lobby level and underground if I remember correctly. Go ahead and make the reservations early (I would but I do things like that). Maybe it was the Holiday Inn, I don't remember exactly but it was a nice place with decent parking at any rate.

My fiancé and I are traveling from Detroit, MI to Highlands Ranch, CO with a trailer along M-80. We have 3 days each way to travel and have campsites reserved. Any suggestions for little scenic stops or restaurants along our route?

We always eat at the Machine Shed in Davenport. It's less than five minutes off the interstate and they have great food.
