Actually made it above freezing here. 35 degrees now and dense fog all day. Some places visibility is less that a few hundred feet. A trace of rain over night.

With a little bit of luck Fruita might hit 35 today. Won't last the weekend though as another front is coming in Sunday night and temps will get back to the 25 high, 5 above variety. For now one thing to watch for is the freezing rain and the bridges are slick. Snow to come in tonight, maybe an inch. Not sure about the high country forecast, I am sure they are not getting enough snow though. Time will tell.

Those in
Grand Junction may be experiencing colder temperatures than the Front Range, but perhaps at least pleased not living in Salt Lake City, Utah. With that fair city often having the distinction of having the worst air quality in the United States. If unfortunately on one day Grand Junction ranked fifth on that unwholesome list.
Salt Lake City has been experiencing air quality above levels considered safe or healthy (with PM 2.5 measuring about 70). This due the natural weather inversions the area has at times in winter.
Grand Junction's air is better, and today ranked only as unhealthy for sensitive groups. See here for the stats on that:

Been raining all day in Durango. It's 34 degrees (at my house - elevation 7,000 ft), and just turning to snow at 5pm. Not sure what's been happening up at Purgatory or the passes today...I'm hoping snow.

Idunn is right (post#284) And the Salt Lake City area just got some unwanted press day before yesterday on NBC Nightly News as the network done a three minute story on the air situation. A buddy of mine who lives west of Salt Lake said the inversion layer stretches north of Ogden to south of Provo, where probably 75% (or more) of Utah's population is at. Grand junction's air hasn't been quite that bad but still bad enough.

Sometime within the past few weeks I made a post in one of the Colorado threads about the bad air quality in Grand Junction during these commonly occurring inversions. I'm not surprised to hear that GJ has the 5th worse air quality in the USA. Bad as the air has been however, it seems rather tame compared to the orange/brown death cloud that used to hang over the Denver-Boulder area back in the early 70s. If Denver is not on current the list, then apparently they've done something effective to clean up the air quality over that way.
