Default Eagle?

My husband is being relocated to Vail and I was wondering, because Vail is so expensive, is there a small, family friendly affordable community within decent driving distance to Vail? We're looking for good schools, affordable housing and low crime rates (isn't everybody?). We'd prefer not to be in a snobby area or one that requires a long commute. The more "insider" info the better. Thanks for your help!

Well, you've got two posts going on for this thread.

The "intermountain" area West of Vail may be suitable for your needs. It's less expensive than Vail and it's immediate areas, and it does have townhomes and single family housing that is targeted to families.

Heading all the way downvalley to Eagle puts you into a small town that is older, with a mixed bag of housing. Some may be suitable for your needs, some may not. It's about 45 minutes to Vail in clear weather, and can be a lot more sometimes in extreme weather & road conditions.

The big factor determining what choices you have for housing in the area will be your budget .... how much you can put down and how much you can afford in monthly payments. Give us an idea what's affordable for you and we can target the areas available .....

it would also make it easier for us to be helpful if you'd consolidate this into one thread .....
