Unfortunately, there are going to be a lot of horses starving in Colorado this winter. Colorado's aridity makes carrying capacity for horses on small acreages problematic even in the best of years. Substanital supplemental feeding is a necessity for nearly all horse owners, even in good years. This year, drought has absolutely ravaged nearly all dry pastures, so horse owners will have to supplemental feed much more and much longer. Meanwhile, hay is now hovering at $400/ton, a price that simply makes it unaffordable for many horse owners. The results are going to be tragic.

There seem to be a lot in Boulder County including a rescue centre (Home | Colorado Horse Rescue) that always need volunteers

Oh, I almost forgot. There seems to be a lot of activity and training going on in the Dove Valley... word has it a bunch of Broncos down there. They've successfully converted a now-mature Colt into a veteran Bronco. Yup. That's down in Centennial Colorado if I'm not mistaken.
