What makes Colorado a great state? (Denver, Colorado Springs: crime rate, place to live, law)

Agreed. I think, and this just my opinion, that you have to ask yourself what can and cannot live without. Each place has +'s and -'s.

Though you must have known what you'd be getting moving to a large rectangular Western state, right? If I moved to Florida, the climate and geography (and probably the people) would seem "strange" to me but it would in no way be "surprising." Colorado developed differently in virtually every way than did old New England, so its not the same as New England ... or Florida ... or California ... or Texas ... or Guatemala. Its Colorado, and thank goodness for that!

What I love about Colorado after living in Denver and Basalt for a few years. (1) Epic beauty (2) World class outdoor adventure sports venues (3) Friendly people (4) Seemingly liberal politics (5) High Plains Raceway, my absolute favorite track: Long high speed straights, tight twisty corners, great flow, lots of elevation changes, grippy surface (6) Absolutely perfect weather IMO (7) Everyone seems to be really fit (as much as I love Kansas City, there's definitely an excessive amount of cellulite in that city) (8) Population seemed to be relatively young, lots of 20's 30's and 40's (9) Snow (10) Pine trees (11) Elk, bears etc...

All in all I love CO and am only biding my time here in this miserable, dirty, sweaty, pavement covered, ugly brown cookie cutter stucco tract home infested, desert hell hole called Phoenix until work transfers me back to Denver.

This may have been true in the past, but I think the last few elections indicate otherwise. Colorado politics are certainly moving to the left (legalized marijuana, a liberal governor and a Democrat controlled legislature that just elected its first openly gay representative).

a few years ago the Republicans were in complete control, and in a years they will be back into control more then likely. the State has always been split pretty much in the middle.

As for the weed, plenty of conservatives voted to legalize it, it is a falicy that only liberals and hippies smoke weed.

also it is funny to me how many people complain about the mexican food in Colorado, yet I have met people from California that moved here that love the Mexican food here, not to mention people from Texas, and people moving out of or into Colorado either love or hate the Mexican food. I have several friends that come from more inland areas of mexico, they laugh at Californians that swear you cannot have authentic mexican food without fish tacos, there are 6 of them from the same area and not one of them had ever heard of fish tacos before they came up here to work for my uncle. The thing is their style of mexican food is not going to be close to what someone from southern California considers authentic. So you may not like the style of most mexican food in Colorado, but that does not mean it is not good or authentic, in fact personally I find some of the worst mexican food I have ever ate to be in restaurants that are trying to be like California mexican, not to mention even a few I have ate at in LA.

I agree. I think a lot of people can't accept that Colorado has it's own unique style of Mexican food. I love trying all the different types of green chile. Every restaurant has it's own version. It's all about the $2 breakfast burritos. A friend of mine who grew up here lived in SoCal for a long time and agrees that it's more of a style difference than one being good or bad. Green chile in other regions usually means some kind of tomatillo salsa. I'm from the Southeast - that's the place you want to go for some truly bad Mexican food.

My favorite things about Denver/CO:

legal weed
breakfast burritos
microbrew scene is second to none
sunshine
dry climate (little too dry sometimes)
great art scene
mostly laid back, friendly people
the outdoors
lots of bands play here in Denver since it's right in the middle of the country (not the case in S. Florida where I moved back from)

True, there are plenty of conservatives who smoke weed and who voted to legalize it. Nonetheless, it was a liberal ballot measure. Could you imagine a conservative state like Kansas or Oklahoma legalizing MJ?
