Would like to cut down on my research time and find a great place to raise our kids? Low crime and good schools. I am aware every area has its negatives but what is the vote for the best place?

Wouldn't hurt to be commutable to a good hospital for wifes work.

Have you considered Northern Virginia? It's sunny here for much of the Winter and I would think the job market in the health care field is likely stronger. The one disadvantage is the relatively high cost of living. However, it might make more sense to stay on the East Coast if that's where the rest of your family is.

You don't say how big of a town/city you are looking for.

You might want to check out Walsenburg. It's a small town, but getting on at the VA Hospital there would give your wife a government pension and that's nothing to sneeze at.
