I'd like to plan a week of vacation where I can visit Colorado (never been there) and drive around the most scenic parts of the state. I'll fly to Denver and wouldn't mind going as far as Durango. I notice the roads that go through Rocky Mountain National Park are closed for the winter. What would be the soonest time of year someone could do this without snow ruining your travels?

Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park typically doesn't open until Memorial Day Weekend. It could be sooner or it could be later - it all depends on snowpack. Snow in the mountains above 10-11,000 feet isn't uncommon in early June. If you want zero risk of snow anywhere, your best bet is mid-late June through the middle of September.
