Does anyone have knowledge to compare Oregon & Colorado. We are considering moving from Florida to a mountain area or near one. I have found some negative in Oregon but have family there who love it. Mainly the economy is my concern. We want a small to medium size town that has growth for good job potential. My boyfriend is a carpenter so needs to start with that but wants to move onto something else. We really don't want a cold climate. Are there warmer places in Colorado within an hour drive or so to mountains? While the temp in Oregon is appealing, the cloudiness is not. I am too use to sunshine being in Florida but don't like the extreme hot & humidity. Oh, definately like to be near fishing and hunting! Thanks

Plenty of places in Colorado that satisfy your criteria. Most of these places are sunny, very low humidity, good climate, close to mountains and outdoors activities:

Grand Junction
Montrose
Durango
Pagosa Springs
Colorado Springs
Denver

Check out this old thread: Denver vs. Portland, OR

Lots of info in there. If you still have questions, add them to THAT thread please.

Carpentry work is bound to be slow everywhere now.

COLO does have some warmer towns that are an hour from the mountains, like Canon City, Pueblo West, and Pueblo. Colorado Springs is great too, and it's right at the mountains. Climate here is dry, low humidity, lots of sun.

Thanks, and best of luck to you.

I've lived in both Oregon (5 years) and Colorado (21 years). First off, only western Oregon is cloudy - and it's really cloudy. Look into Bend. It's a beautiful, mid-sized, exciting, growing, sunny town just a hop from mountain recreation. Pretty much anywhere in Colorado except for the far eastern plains is either in or within an hour or so of the mountains. There really arn't many mid-sized towns in the eastern plains anyway.

If you don't want a cold climate, you might re-think CO. Although the winter is mild by midwestern standards, we do get snow (and therefore weather cold enough for snow) usually starting in October and lasting through May. The only months with no recorded snow in Denver are July and August.

Did you mean EAST of Bend. Going west from Bend gets you closer to all that water, right? http://bestsmileys.com/water/6.gif (broken link)

Yes but unless you completely hate the cold its actually mild, in fact Pueblo had 4, 70 degree days in a row last week, some days near 80, and its January. We might get snow till April but the next day it could be back in the 80's and 90s....
