Default historic homes in Evergreen

Hi there, does anybody have any information on the old Greystone Castle in Upper Bear that is built into the mountain and sits right off the road.

Or any other interesting stories about historic Evergreen homes would be great.

Thank you so much!

I know of one story up in the brook forest area thats kind of neat. Brook forest is a big neighborhood in evergreen and if you take the main road up somewhere along the way you'll run into what looks like an old mansion thats called the brook forest inn (supposedly haunted) anyways scattered all around the inn are a bunch ruined old sheds and buildings as well as several cabins that were actually a part of the inn. I guess it was, at one point, a very popular area for people from the city to come to on a vacation. They used some of the cabins as well as the inn itself. There was even an outdoor pool there up until about two years ago when a fire station was built in its place but its cool to see it sit up way up this road as well as some of the old cabins (many of which have been converted to homes)

I grew up in Brook Forest right by the Inn. I can tell you lots of stories and history about the Inn. It's one of my favorite places in Evergreen.

Ah dangit, well you'll have to back.

I will for sure tell Sheri that you sent me! She is a very nice woman. Her family has done wonders for the Brook Forest Inn and neighborhood. It was a pit when I was growing up. It's a neat success story.

Thumbs up When i was little..........

When i was a little girl (about 7 or 8) brook forest inn was the best place in the world. I grew up very ear it in evergreen, colorado. It is haunted. I guess thats the main reason i spent so much time with my family there in the restaraunt. I know many stories about that place, and i excpirienced a lot of things too. For example, one time when i was there i was in the driveway and i looked up at one of the windows and it was open. The curtain inside of it loooked like it was being pulled on the from the inside, and then it quickly went through the windo and was being pulled on by somone on the outside. I didn't really know what was going on at that time, but now i do. Another example is one time when my family and i were waiting for a table there, and a woman came down to check-out of her hotel room, which she spent the night in. The lady at the front desk asked her how her stay was, and she replied, "It was very nice, except i could hardly sleep. There was a woman crying and screaming all night in the room next to mine," and the lady at the desk looked at her and said, "Ms, you happened to be the only one in the whole inn who spent the night, and no one else had rented out room." There were many stories like these that I am willing to tell. There are so many I remember. And i still love it at brook forest inn, though i don't think its there anymore. Who knows? I moved out of there years ago!!!!

Default Greystone

Marie,

I know a great deal about Greystone, having written several published items about it.

It was built in 1915 by Genevieve Chandler Phipps the divorsee of multi-millionaire Lawrence Phipps. In 1939 it was sold to Wilfley family, then sold again in 1946 to the Sandifer family, then sold again in 1980 to the Smith family and finally in the 90s to the current owners.

What information are you seeking?
