Like BOLDER, my husband and I are planning on retiring in Grand Junction. We live on a homestaed in rural Alaska and with 11 1/2 feet of snow the last couple of years we're so ready to move to a less harsh environment. We lived in Prescott, Az. for years and love the desert type country around Grand Junction and aren't too concerned about amenities. We've been checking housing and it's so cheap there compared to up here, but I'm wondering about the medical facilities and hospitals. Also, when the Co. river floods, is the town in danger? If so, what parts? Do you have to drive far to hunt and what about metal detecting?
