Relocating within CO - May Have Watched Too Many Movies

If you are coming from E470 or 225 area down to Monument or Woodmoor area, you can come down Highway 83 to County Line or Hwy 105 and avoid the interstate altogether. Depending on where you are and where you are going it may not take much longer than the interstate and its a more interesting drive once you get south of Parker. We go up Hwy 83 to E470 whenever we go to DIA. I even prefer that route over taking the interstate when the weather is bad, as there are fewer people on the road to cause problems.

To keep the stress levels manageable, I suggest first finding the job, then find a place to live as close as possible to the job to cut down on commute time, expenses, and all of the stress associated with commuting.

I hopped on C-470 at University today at 4:30pm and then took 285 up to the Aspen Park exit. I was home in my house at 5pm after even filling my car up at the gas station. It was a little slow between University and Santa Fe and then clear sailing after that. I live about 6 minutes from the 285 exit in Aspen Park.

I live past Conifer and travel 285 daily. There really aren't any traffic issues most of the time; the volume is high, but traffic still moves well. You will probably start to see traffic once the highway portion of 285 ends (in Littleton), and there will definitely be traffic on C-470 at certain times of the day.

I would personally recommend Evergreen over Conifer. It is definitely more of a community, and they actually have a downtown. From personal experience, I find that people in Conifer are generally not as open to things like rec centers (they keep voting it down). Most people live in Conifer to get away from the city, and although the same may be true for people in Evergreen, they seem to be far more open to new things than the people on the 285 side.

As for traffic in Evergreen, it can get a bit busy during the summer, and you have to deal with herds of elk crossing the roads quite often. It really doesn't bother me, but sometimes you can get stuck for 5 min or more waiting for the elk to cross. Besides the endless traffic lights on 74 (main route out of town), that's about the only traffic you'll deal with. There are other ways in and out of town if I-70 is backed up for some reason. I never had to commute on I-70, since I lived and worked in Evergreen, so I can't say how often that actually happens. Ski traffic is the only time I ever recall much of a backup.
