Default carless in CO

I don't live in Colorado yet, but can tell you from having visited that there are three places you could consider living in without a car.

Boulder would be the best option. It's small enough to get around using transit, biking or just plain walking. It's really the perfect town in that respect, but VERY expensive...though coming from Manhattan it may seem reasonable to you. There's tons to do, with the University of Colorado there, a great cultural and restaurant scene, and it's still close to Denver if you want to get to the big city. There is transit that will get you into Denver.

Then of course there's Denver. If you choose a downtown neighborhood you could be perfectly fine without a car, neighborhoods like Capitol Hill and LoDo are
urban and have pretty much anything you'd need.

If you want something smaller than either Denver or Boulder, with more of a laidback vibe you might consider Fort Collins. Transit friendly because it's a college town too (Colorado State University) it has plenty to do but less "polished" than Boulder. Which can be nice..
