A pleasant fall day will occur as a transitory ridge of high pressure passes by today. Breezy to windy conditions will take place Wednesday and Thursday as a large area of low pressure settles into the Great Basin with a few showers possible across the north. A noticeable increase in showers and light mountain snow is expected Thursday afternoon into Friday, especially across northern sections of the forecast area associated with a cold front passage.

Wind Advisory today and Thursday for the western slope. No kidding, just drove from Delta to Ridgway and between Olathe and Montrose I thought my Jeep was going to get blown off the highway.

Not only is it windy on the western slope, but all across UTAH on I-70, and even windier at my current location in Ely, Nevada. It's also very cloudy over here, so I expect you'll have the clouds over the western slope in the next day or two.

I awoke to snow flurries and a 39 degree temperature in Ely-NV this morning. Colder air head toward Colorado.

Look for cooler temperatures and widespread showers today as a storm moves through the area. A cold front associated with this system will cause snow levels to lower resulting in accumulating snow over the higher elevations, especially north. Showers will diminish this evening as the system moves off to the east. With clearing skies tonight, the cold airmass left behind today's storm will bring freezing temperatures to the valleys of western Colorado and northeast Utah. The colder temperatures will carry into Saturday, then temperatures warm back to normal from Sunday through the middle of the coming week.

Sunny and warmer conditions continue today with some breezy conditions across the north this afternoon. Similar conditions are expected Tuesday, with temperatures rising several degrees above normal levels. An upper level disturbance may bring scattered showers at midweek, though mainly over the northeast Utah mountains. A winter-like storm system is possible Thursday night and Friday with accumulating snow likely and significant amounts possible over the northern and central mountains.
