Also:
1. Driving a Subaru will help.
2. Wearing The North Face will help.
3. Visiting Casa Bonita (once, only once) will help.
4. Smoking MJ will not help, but you will think it does.

I visited recently from the east coast and had no problems at all while in Denver. My visits into the higher altitude was a whole different story though. I found myself getting light headed several different times and I couldn't hike far at all without becoming really winded. It was really quite pathetic. I'll be relocating pretty soon. It will be interesting to see how that changes after some time.

I assume you mean the altitude. Yes, it does and some people never adjust. One of the reasons I hate Colorado is that, despite spending a good deal of time there, I never adjusted to the altitude and always felt bad/sick. It's not for everybody.

True. But when you go to Miami you will do so much better and you will be happy again.

eh, this isn't normal. . .

I mean yeah, maybe something is wrong with the above guy. Its like having an allergic reaction (egg) to an allergy shot. 1 in a 100k? 1 in 1,000,000. . .

Within 7-days your body will be 100% adjusted, and most people won't have syptoms after 36hrs

Denver is moderate, once adjusted. . .you can go to mountains without issue. Most people can fly from New York (or California) to Denver, then travel to Vail, and go skiing without issues. If they couldn't. . .

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell had to move from their gazillion dollar house in Aspen (or was it Vail ? ), because her mother could not adjust to the altitude.

It's not at all that uncommon to NOT be able to adjust. Especially if you are over 40.

When I went to the doctor there, he told me that it was quite common. So I think your "statistics" are a little too optimistic.

How long without going back to sea level?

You need to stay put for several months to be fully adjusted. Once you go back to sea level and spend any significant amount of time there, your body will need another few months to be fully adjusted again. Some people are quicker, but some not.
