Silvercliffe and the Wet Mtn Valley is also a designated dark skies area. The town has worked with area ranchers to create and install lighting to minimize viewing interference for outside lighting sources.

Another great place is Blue Mesa Reservoir. Even when camped at their main campground, and even on a partly cloudy night with lightning flaring up miles away, the stargazing there was incredible. I need to go back there soon...

And west of Mesa Verde and Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument (in both CO and UT) offers wonderfully dark skies. I think that one is officially one of the Dark Skies parks.
