It is a fee that is charged you based on the value of your car. You pay it to get your tags. It is a tax, so is tax-deductible. Weird, isn't it? Different than Illinois, but it's been so long since I lived there, I don't remember how they do it there any more.

Yes, you pay it every year. It gets lower as the car gets older.

We used to live in California and moved to Colorado about 9 months ago. We looked at homes from Colorado Springs up to Ft. Collins before settling on a small town called Castle Rock. It is located halfway between Colorado Springs and Denver....about a 20-30 minute drive to either large city. Castle Rock was voted the number one place in the nation to live by Family Circle magazine. It has a small town feel, but with all the amenities you could want. The people are really friendly, lots of hiking, biking, equestrian etc.

that sucks. nj taxes EVERYTHING, but not like that so a 40,000 car is mad loot plus the car payments and ins.

Of course, the last time I checked Douglas County had the highest median home price outside of the resort areas in the whole state . . . bring plenty of money with you.
