Oh man.
I remember "not knowing where the road is" on I-25, trying to get home from The Fort during a snowstorm, in my then-boyfriend's leaky convertible with crummy windshield wipers. It was dusk but seemed like midnight.
We "lost" the road more than once but made it home okay.
I *really* don't like not knowing where the road is.

I have 27 more days until I'm back Home!!!!!!!! Then I'll be able to breathe and rest easy again....forever!!
Good times in Tulagi's. Really good shows, too.
I am very glad for you and your reunion with Colorado--it's changed a bit since back then.
Last I heard, Tulagi's was going to be a sandwich shop.
::sigh::

A sandwich shop? Sheesh!! On the subject of 3.2 clubs (where I killed off many a brain cell), does anyone remember these places in the Denver area? The Tower- on Colorado Blvd., The Galaxy on Alameda, Skunk Creek Inn (Boulder), La Pichet on West Mississippi? My favorite club was the Draught House, near 88th and Washington. July of 1971 I saw Sugarloaf play there. Cover charge was $3 that night. Wednesday night was drown night; all the 3.2 beer you could drink for $3, I killed off a few brain cells. Fortunately, the guys I hung around with believed in designated drivers even back then (late 60's).

I remember La Pichet and the Draft House. (sp?)
For me, the cream of the 3.2 experience was the Seven Seas up in Fort Collins.
It would be so crowded you could barely move, then the bartender would put on Side 2 of the double Will The Circle Be Unbroken album, the one with Orange Blossom Special, and all hell would break loose.

I saw Sugarloaf play at Mammoth Gardens--anyone remember Mammoth?
Some memorable concerts there, including the Who.

I was more attuned to Jerry Jeff Walker's "Redneck Mothers." You know, the one with the lyric:

Quote:
"M" is for "Mother,"

"O" is for the oil in my hair,

"T" is for T-Bird,

"H" is for Haggard,

"E" is for eggs, and

"R" is for REDNECK MOTHERS . . .

He was 34 and drinkin' in a honky-tonk;
Just kickin' hippies' ***es and raisin' hell.
Or, that old polka:

Quote:
In heaven there is no beer,
That's why we drink it here,
And when we're gone from here,
Our friends will be drinkin' all the beer.
Yee ha!

Sandwich Shop! Geez!!!

The Good Ole Days with Great Tunes!!

By the way, WHEN did 3.2 at 18 get nixed??

When my youngest turned 18, I told him, "Hey, you can smoke, vote, get a tatoo, buy Lotto AND drink 3.2!!" Of course he said, "What year are you in Mom??" No 3.2 for 18 year olds, when did that happen??

Of course this is coming from a child that had no idea who Diana Ross was??

She had got in a scuff at and airport some years ago and, I said, "Can you believe Diana Ross acted like that?" "I dunno'", he said, I have no idea who she is"!! What?? I couldn't believe it!!!!! BRAT!!!!!!!

"M" is for the mudlflaps on my pickup.
On the subject of music--how many people remember the riot at the Jethro Tull concert at Red Rocks--'70 or '71, I think. The City of Denver banned rock concerts there for several years after that. I didn't go to the concert, but happened to be driving by there just in time to see the Denver Police getting their sawed-off shotguns out of the trunks of their cruisers, load them, chamber a shell and then head up to the amphitheater to quell the riot. Pretty spooky.

I was there. I was about 16 years old.
Livingston Taylor (James' little brother) was onstage, and all the sudden he seemed to start coughing.
Then I and everyone else started coughing.
The worst thing was hearing the sound of a baby crying somewhere.
The cops definitely had an attitude that night; my usual experience with 1970's Colorado officers of the law was that they were very professional and fair, considering our youthful shenanigans.
But the band came on, Ian Anderson said something like "Welcome to World War Three" and it actually turned out to be a pretty good concert.
Jazz
Your quote of the Jerry Jeff song reminded me of another great concert spot. There were few shows there, but they were swell. I am talking about the Oxford Hotel (adjacent to the Cruise Room.) I saw Gary P. Nunn, a member of Jerry Feff Walker's Lost Gonzo Band, perform there many years ago--and one of the songs was Redneck Mother.
