Default Where is a good town in the upper elevations?

Thanks for the info in my previous thread.. I understand that I need to go higher up to get good snow.. I really just want a place that has enough to play in, make some snow angels, snowballs, etc. So, what would be a good town to shoot for, that we could drive to?

Thanks!

How about Leadville? It's over 10,000 ft.

Do you also need a place to work or internet access ?

I thiink finding a place really snowy with high speed internet could be a
challenge, but there is always satellite services like "wild blue".

Well, if all you want is some snow, you could head up to Berthoud Pass (take the US-40 exit of I-70), and then if you want to stop in town you can stop in the town of Winter Park which is on the other side. There should be some snow up there.

Thanks! Yep, we just want to play in a little snow! :-) I haven't seen snow in 7 years, so I'm ready! It'll be just a day trip for us.. I'd like to stop in a town that would have maybe a park and facilities since we'll have our 14 month old with us.

If you're looking to just play for a daytrip, you could head to the Frisco Nordic Center/Frisco Peninsula Recreation Area just south of Frisco off Highway 9. Lots of trails, open space, and forests to run around and play in. Fits your park/facility criteria nicely. If you want something even more in-town, there are a couple of parks in Frisco off Main Street too.

While Berthoud Pass is nice too, just be forewarned that there are avalanche-prone slopes in the area.

Not sure when you're planning to make this trip, but as of today (Nov-16), there is no snow on the ground anywhere in Summit County or Leadville (in-town that is). What little snow there is, is at the higher elevations.
