Thank you to everyone who responded. I have been looking into summit areas and that looks like the way I'm going. Where I currently live I need to travel 14 hours to reach any snow, and that is my main criteria for relocating. I certainly don't want to go half way round the world to live and find I have snow only half the time. I want to find a place to settle where I can ride a snowmobile to my front door all through winter.

Minx,

You've no doubt moved by now, since its been 2 years since your last post here. But for you or anyone else with similar desires (SNOW) in or around Idaho Springs, the communities of St. Mary's, Alice, and Winterland in Idaho Springs are the perfect choice. I live in Alice.

We are about 15-20 minutes north of town (and I-70) high up in the mountains around 10,000 feet. We get a lot of snow up here! Most of the roads are dirt roads, and residents often snowmobile and ATV right out our front doors. (Some roads are county-maintained and plowed, others are maintained by the private local Road department). We're also surrounded by national forest, and have the beautiful St. Mary's Glacier hike (a year-round snow field and lake). A small ski area here has been in the works for years now, and could be opening in the next year or two (which will go by the name of "Eclipse", to be operated by Michael Coors - yes, THAT Coors). I won't get into the politics of the snow park here, as there are some fanatical supporters and opposers.

There are lots of areas to ski and just enjoy the outdoors up here, whether it be winter or summer fun. We are a very small community but have a lot to offer people who want to live in a beautiful place like this. Home prices vary greatly, anywhere from $50,000 for some of the mobile homes to $300,000+ for the larger homes with better views (and everything in between). We are about a 50 minute drive to Denver.

The community has a website at www.stmarysglacier.com. There are some nice photos on that site and the community forums at www.timberlinetalk.com.

If you're still looking to move, we'd love to have you LOL. If you've already moved here, welcome!

EDIT: I see now that you moved to Grand Lake. I hope you're enjoying it!
