Colorado Is Not So Special
I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT Colorado has anything special that makes it superior to other places. There are better, more scenic mountains; there are states that have more scenic beauty overall with lush forest, lakes, streams and oceans; the city of Denver is not so unique and different than many other cities; the small towns in the mountains are less scenic and pleasurable than many other moutain towns; the towns on the plains are not very special and have very few unique characteristics and are shabby compared to many towns in the midwest and the east; the land is less fertile; the climate in many places is more hostile; the people do not have more education;---it is a very plain square state, as the map shows.
HOWEVER, a special place is a special place if it is a special place to you. family puts a place in your heart; growing up in a place becomes rememberances in your mind; good job makes a place an important place; your interests are attracted to that special place; a special person lures you and makes their special place, yours;
OR a special place is the commonplace that gives you comfort; it is the place that gives you acceptance; the special place is the place at the end of the road, when all other roads have been traveled and after all choices are made, it is what is left and you accept it; it is the place at the exhaustive end where you will rest.
Colorado is my special place......

I like livecontent's post. He explained something that is difficult to articulate. I have tried to make this point on other city forums, to no avail. No place is superior. The people here are not "better", despite what many coming here from other places post. It is just one's own special place.

That is an astronomy problem, not a Colorado problem.

Thanks Livecontent
For saying it so well..... What makes a place "special" or "better" than another is the emotion it evokes within the individual. I have lived all my life in SE Minnesota; it has its redeeming qualities and nearly all of my family lives here. It's not a bad place at all! But I have traveled all over the US and done some foreign travel, so I have some points of reference. Via numerous vacations and business trips to Colorado, I got to experience many different areas in the state. I always enjoyed the trip, but of course some areas pulled at me more than others.
The determining factor in my decision to relocate to Colorado was that the drive to DIA for my return flight to MN got harder and harder to make. I watched the foothills and mountains get further and further away in my rearview mirror through tears every time. When that drive felt like I was leaving home, rather than going home, that was the defining moment.
In a few weeks, after several years of research and fact-finding visits, we will be closing on 35 acres in the Wet Mountain valley. We'll build our retirement home there in the next 3 to 5 years, and we couldn't be more thrilled.
I guess that's why I get such a kick out of the folks who post here that they want to move to "Colorado," and want to know if it's 'for them?' Many of them have never even visited!! So many seem to have a very romanticized image of living in the moutains and having a 15 minute commute to 'the city' year-round. Its a large state, with such diversity in terrain, climate, culture, etc. The only way a person can know if a place is 'for them' is to go there, spend time there, look at maps, do research, go there again... and see how your heart feels when its time to leave. That's how you know if a place is special...

Colorado is great, but I could NEVER live in place with a semi-arid climate!

You know, I always thought the same, having grown up in lush, green, New York. When, I started developing severe health problems which includes very bad arthritis--I started changing my thoughts. Dampness and humidity give me pain and swelling and I cannot tolerate severe heat or severe cold. So, Denver is somewhat is the middle as in semi.
It is were I ended up; it is were I am; and it will be were I will stay. You come to an age when being more is more important, than seeing more.

I think anyone who knows me knows I love Pueblo lol. That being said I think every place in the United States it a great place to live and I bet if I went to any town the people there could give a million reasons why I should live there. That is what makes it so hard for any city to recruit companies and why you see so much effort being put into it by local and state officials.
