I am planning a move (as soon as my place sells) to Durango Colorado. I picked Durango because I heard the town is accepting of both liberals and metaphysical spiritual beliefs which fits with me. For work I have worked in a health food store for many years. I plan to start my own business in hypnosis and nlp, and I do reiki, etc. These (own bus. plans are in the future) for I would need to find a full-time job in something related when I arrive. Are there any large health stores in Durango or a near by town and what is the economy like in Durango (hopefully low unemployment.)

The locally owned & operated Nature's Oasis is building & moving into a huge new storefront this spring, which would be a great time to get a foot in the new, expanded location.

There is also Durango Natural Foods just below the college on eighth. It has a much more coop feel than Nature's Oasis. They're both great though.

Nature's 970.247.1988 (biggest)
DNF 247.8129 (used to be co-op format, not sure if it still is) DgoNative is right .. they are both great places with great people also The Health Forrest (a supplement-type shop with more great people) 385.4659 Don't know as much about these. Zuma Natural Foods in Mancos (smaller) 533.7300 Mountain Valley Market in Bayfield (smaller) 884.1185 Farmington and Cortez have health food stores, too, but they are more like an hour drive .. Durango's stores are bigger. There is also a cool herb shop on Main right by Carver's restaurant, but the name escapes me. You might also look into Turtle Lake Refuge on E. 3rd ave. betw 8 & 9 streets. They grow and make raw living foods and serve meals two days a week. Also a great place to make contacts when you get here. With lots of other people here in your line of work, you may be able to rent space from an existing business or partner up with one or more other healers to start your own practice sooner. welcome and best wishes! Thank you for the info. I will check them out maybe give them a call before I get there to see if they are taking appl. I That Turtle Lake Refuge sounds great too with the raw foods. I plan to be there in the spring. It sounds like I will fit right in! They all sound really good.
Thank you for the Natures Oasis link I went to the website and it sounds like it will be opening (new store) about the time I arrive great! The stores usually have a need to expand their hiring along with expanding the store. Last edited by Mike from back east; 12-03-2007 at 10:53 PM.. Reason: Merging two posts into one. |

People hit everything I know, and I'll chime in here too. I can find just about everything at the local stores mentioned, including a fantastic bulk-food selection. There is also a pretty amazing farmer's market...who knew that all THAT could be grown in this area?
The only thing I really miss is Trader Joe's, not exactly a health-food store, but a great alternative for a lot of the things I like. I always pack a cooler when I go through Albuquerque so that I can stock up at TJ's while there. |
