Red face For the Colorado Dog Owners

We are relocating to the boulder area in 08 and have 2 dogs. Do any of you have a small dog? I know our big dog loves the snow, I am just worried my chihuahua (3 lbs short coat) will be miserable! Just wondering if anyone has experience with little dogs in a cold snowy place!

We had a chihuahua before we moved here. We thought the temps here might be cruel on her because she shivered all the time in SoCal. We had a friend who wanted her so we gave her up before we moved. We've since met people with chihuahua's and they do OK with a sweater.

We have a Norwegian Buhund now. He has a sweater built in.

I guess that is like twice the size a chihuahua's face should be, and green. I wonder if I will have one of those "alien encounter" dreams this evening.....

But I digress. We have a greyhound. They are the oldest (5000 year old) breed, from Egypt. Almost no hair, very little vacuuming and their little parts retreat at the very hint of snow. I spent about 10 bucks on fleece and velcro at the fabric store, made him a coat in about 45 minutes. It is zebra striped, hilarious. He wears it maybe 4 times a year, when its really cold, for about 5 minutes (he piddles as quick as he runs).

But then we don't keep our dog outside.

I have a doxin with hair loss, he is almost all skin now days. He spends minimal time outside in the winter, he dashes out, does his business ASAP, and is back inside faster then it takes me to get up and walk to the bathroom. For a couple years I tried to get him to wear sweaters but he hates them, I just don't take him for walks when it is cold. I also keep fleece blankets on his bed and the couch for him to burrow into at night.
