Sorry you are having trouble adjusting. I am from east coast and while I do miss the green and the trees, I really do lovve our climate, and lack of humidity. I will agree,it takes time to make friends. I am really glad your daughter likes her school, but I will second live content and say that you are lving in a big, far flung family neighborhood. I live in South Denver and I see much more family diversity here- in fact, in my daughter's class I there are 5 single parents, and one gay couple. There seem to be many child and adult things to get involved with. I agree too that if you moved from NYC to Ken Caryl- that is QUITE a change, give yourself some time.
As for the friendliness, I was just thinking today (when we were at my daughter's christmas play) how it sometimes STILL feels like highh school again with parents-you have the "popular" moms who seem very cliquey and those of us on the fringe. I think the key is being involved but also putting yourself out there and moving on to other people if you discover some are too snobby or are "too busy" to do things with. we are not huge churchgoers, but did join one for a spiritual outlet and have found it to be very, very welcoming place to newcomers and a myriad of activities to be involved with. |

Course, now it is 38 degress and misting c possibility (not too likely) of freezing rain. I flew to Denver last Wednesday, flew home Thursday evening. It was snowing when I left Denver, and 68 degrees, overcast, and very muggy in Austin. I felt like I couldn't breathe before I got off the plane.
With my asthma, I think I handle the dryness even at that altitude far better than the heat and humidity here. mel |

We are atheists, so the church aspect was not for us, but I believe it can be a great source for some. |

Sorry to hijack this post, but I couldn't help but see that there were two atheists on this post alone...could it be there are more like me? LOL

In our new home community, one thing we have found ... is that everyone starts out not knowing anymore, so you really get to meet people more quickly. There are no pre-estanlish relationships and networks. We never had this many friends in our old neighborhood.

If you're an atheist or otherwise uninerested in church, there are groups such as American Assn of Univ. Women, League of Women Voters, etc that can give you a start. Also try Newcomer's Clubs, MOPS, and other "Mom" groups. These groups are fine for the church-goers, too, I might add.

I have decided to "come out of the confessional" as to say to that we are here; we have rights and most atheist are not against church peoples rights, if fact we share many of the same values and morals. It appears, I cannot give you more reputations but I like your posts--I like what you have to say; I like it when you get feisty --thank you for being who you are.![]() yours, Livecontent |
