I have a sister coming to town from San Francisco for almost two weeks and would love to show her a good time. I am planning so far to look into the Ski Train, the Blossoms of Light at Botanic Gardens, ice skating in Evergreen and see if Cirque de Soleil is playing right now. Just wondering if any of you have fun wintery ideas of activities. Or if you have additional info about these events. Do you know if you can bring a dog ice skating in Evergreen (long shot, but thought I would ask)? Thanks in advance for the advice!!

Yes, I have seen dogs on the ice up there. Just be sure to call before you haul up there. They may not be open. Hopefully, this recent cold snap is enough to freeze the lake for skating conditions. If you want to go to "Skate the Lake" on New Year's Eve, you have to buy tix in advance (I honestly don't know where, you'd have to google it), but it's fun. Fireworks at 9 PM and 12 MN, fires w/marshmallow roasting, etc. There is also ice skating at lots of other places. The rink at Louisville is cute. We went there yesterday. They had the horse-drawn cart rides around downtown (Louisville), a quartet in Victorian dress singing Christmas songs, Starbuck's was giving away (!) little cups of mocha and hot chocolate. Boulder has an ice rink near Pearl St. Mall. It's very "Boulder". Here are their websites:

Boulder Creek Events (Lousiville)

Boulder Ice Rink (Boulder)

You might want to try getting tickets to "White Christmas" at the Denver Center. We are going Dec. 22. Some friends went and liked it. There is also "Zoo Lights" at the zoo. My kids liked seeing the animals asleep.

My vote would be for the Ski Train--neat trip, you see scenery that is not accessible by highway. Plus, you don't have the hassle of dealing with a million crazed idiots up on the I-70 Sacrifice Zone.

New Years Eve in CO. Hmm. Well, a few years back I went downtown with a few people to watch the fireworks. Yawn. What I witnessed were a bunch of young people (16-23) roaming around and once the mediocre fireworks show was over, they starting roaming again. I did enjoy looking at 16th Street Mall all lit up, but how long can you stare at that for? lol. I'm not interested in entering the sausage bars along the way and fight the huge crowds. Cant understand the attraction. Maybe I'm just bitter or used to more excitement. Sounds like a night at home with whiskey and pizza!

I would take your sister to the Buckhorn Exchange, that would be one restaurant that she could not find in San Francisco. This is the place to eat our delicious juicy oysters fresh from the prairie ocean.

http://www.buckhorn.com/main.htm (broken link)

It is right across the street, at the Osage Stop, on the Southwest Light Rail Line.

Just curious. Can you describe what you used to do that was so exciting?
