Steamboat, Colo
Hello
Im new to this forum im an 18 year old senior in highschool. So anyone who might be a steamboat native or Colorado Mountain College student(where i plan to attend) have any info on cost of living, how friendly the people are, i ask because for one ive never been to steamboat colorado and for two ive lived in New York my whole life, quite sick of this place and the economys bad, no jobs. The snow is my life i love it and Ski town USA seemed like my best bet.So when i graduate college im making my way out to steamboat to attend college -alpine campus for CMC. When i graduate college im tryin to get a job at a resort somewhere and im lookin for any advice on ski resorts in colorado, and job availability. Your input would be appreciated

watsup offthegrid i am 18 and moving to arvada, co in 20 days and also LOVE snow and LOVE the amazing mtns i graduated in 07 and am thinkin bout mtn college as well u shud thnik about the one in leadville cuz leadville is soooo much cheaper than the resort areas, arvada is bacsially west denver and idk how long i am gonna live there before i decied to try and live up in summit or eagle counties i really want to but it is kinda rual and jobs wud b hard to find and i gotta live and work in co for a year before i am allowed to pay instate tuition so idk. if i live in arvada i am prob gonna end up driving to the high coutnry to play alsmot everyday so maybe i shud just try and live there, anyway for the first month i am living in arvada and will see where to go from there. good luck with your search and dont kill yourself from boredom while driving across the plains, lol it sucks it is so mcuh NOTHING

Cost of living is expensive. Before you make such a committment, make sure they have the courses you want up there. Since you've never been there, I suggest you come out and take a look before signing up for college there. Sorry to sound like a mom, but I am one!

Good luck to both of you! The main suggestion to make is to make sure that you have a job / a way to pay for the rent before you move.
Been in CO for a long time now but Steamboat is one of the places i still did not visit and hope to do so.

I know I sound like a mom again, but you are supposed to pick your college based on what you want to study, not how close it is to a ski resort. My nephew attended CMC Steamboat for about a week, because he wanted to ski a lot. He went back to CU.

Steamboat has become a typical Colorado resort. That means the cost of living is quite high, especially for housing. Wages, especially for young people, are poor. There are lots of them who want to be there to ski--so competition for jobs is keen. This isn't just true for Steamboat--just about any Colorado resort area will fit that description. If you think the NYC job market is poor with no good jobs, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Resort areas have a lot of amenities, but plentiful, decent jobs aren't one of them--and probably never will be. They haven't been in my lifetime in the Rocky Mountain West (50+ years).
Oh, yeah--these days you will be competing with umpteen aliens (some legal, some illegal) for entry-level jobs in resort areas. Unlike Americans, they are often willing to live 6-12 in a 1 bedroom condo to afford to live in a resort area and work. That's going to be your competition, too.
