The only bad part about Cottonwood is there is no place to pass. Sat behind a car towing a camper, wouldn’t pullover, all the way up the west side of the pass. Slow death.

Rain / ice currently forecast in that region October 16-17.

Could change to better or worse but I'd take the warning and watch as the forecast is updated. Maybe come a week or two earlier if possible. Weekend before forecast to be 15-20 degrees warmer than the following one. Mid October can be iffy in the mountains.
