Question Evergreen Internet, Phone, Cable or Satellite

I am moving to Evergreen the end of this month from CA and someone told me not to get internet through Qwest due to how slow it is. I currently have Directv and would like to transfer that over if that is recommended. I understand that I can get a bundle through Qwest but I don't want to do that if internet is slower than cable. Does anyone recommend getting phone and internet service through Comcast instead? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First I don't believe that comcast is avaliable in Evergreen yet.. When I first moved to Evergreen we got the qwest bundle and it seemed to work just fine. There were those rare times when it would go down but I don't remember it being to often. Although if they do have comcast up there now i would highly recomend getting it

I have helped customers in evergreen.. some have comcast, some have qwest, some have proprietary internets..

I suggest if you want cheap service go qwest.. I suggest if you like higher downloads, better network go comcast.. or take your only other choice proprietary internet providers.. both providers will have about the same download but if you pay for comcasts high end service it will beat qwests.. (qwest network is worse.. why I don't recommend them unless you want to save money) as for phone I suggest voip providers.. you could use comcasts for $33 a month or so.. (based on their specials?) or you could use vonage for between $5-25 and or a dozen other voips out there.. averaging at $15-25

(If you acted fast you could even move your current CA? number to a voip provider and have it ring in denver no problem)

For the record DirectTV's internet is terrible as is all internet relayed through space.. it takes 500-750 ms to have a signal from the ground to reach space.. then it takes that same amount of time to get back to earth.. now put that in real world terms it takes 3-4 seconds for all that to get done.. and the if you’re lucky your page will load in 4-15 seconds.. were as of course comcast and or qwest will do much better.. also coupled to this fact is that all DirectTV customers are run on some kind of subnet before reaching the internet this makes hosting etc. a pain in the ass or impossible..

I did have a customer once who had DirectTV and actually ran pcanywhere through it and the mouse movement was actually decent.. but I wouldn't expect miracles from space technology.. it will likely always be to slow.. and should be considered only in desperate need of broadband (no choices)

You far better off if you can get reception using EVDO networks from verizon or sprint in this case.. again over > any Satellite internet

As far as tv goes.. DirecTV is fine for TV and beats comcasts quality last I checked (that could have changed.. it's been 3-5 years)

Welcome to the neighborhood.

Do you know where you are living in Evergreen? You might not have much choice depending on the exact location.

I use Directv for tv, very satisfied.

For internet I use wispertel wireless service but only because that is the only high speed service I can get (besides satellite, that I would never consider). This is uncommon, most people can get either comcast or qwest. I wouldn't recommend wispertel if you can get qwest/comcast. The service works fine but they have zero customer service.

I have used comcast cable service for internet in Evergreen and it worked great. I have no experience using qwest.

Good Luck!

if you can get comcast, it is generally pretty good for high speed internet. their tv service is overpriced and not as good as dish network or directv, especially for high definition programming.

Default Curious about Direct TV (DTV)

Folks: We had DTV back in VA. Whenever a heavy rain went over, the signal got blocked and we lost DTV reception. During the all-day blizzards of Dec 2006, or during heavy T-Storms, did anyone's DTV signal get blocked? We've had Comcast cable and internet here in COL SPGS for 2 years and like it okay, it's only been down once for an hour or so.

Thanks!

In over 3 years I can only think of 3 times that I have lost the signal and it was only for a few hours.

It hardly ever happens.

I seem to remember also that if you have a dish your signal gets a little sketchy during wind and snow storms

Chances are the dish was probably not lined up for optimum signal to begin with. The signal will drop during storms, but if it's really high to start with you won't lose your picture.

I think to it depends a good deal of where you are located in Evergreen. There are some pretty remote rural areas and then there are areas that are very suburban. Usually if you live in the more rural areas your service is going to very greatly from that of the suburban areas
