We've sold a refrigerator and 2 cars as well as advertising a couple of rentals we have.
Everything is local and we take cash only. So far, no problems.

I just almost got scammed off CL buying a Jeep Cherokee. Person said they were leaving Florida to go to war in Afganahstan..that Ebay would be the third party on the transaction. I was all excited because Ebay will back your purchase....THey used the Ebay logo and everything. I went onto Ebay to find the vehicle to purchase it....it wasn't there. I called Ebay and they asked me to forward the sting of emails to them. What tippes me off is they wanted to go outside of Ebay to complete the transaction...via money gram....that's not the way Ebay operates. I'm glad I called Ebay....but then again I'm not sending someone a moneygram. I also have come across MANY looking at rentals here in Erie, Boulder area and they are all out of the country wanting you to send money and HOPE they mail you a KEY! It's BAD on CL right now

Had a story on TV just last night, someone saw a lovely home for rent on CL but decided to check it further. They found the house for sale on a site like realtor.com and the agent confirmed it was NOT on the rental market. The scammer simply pulled the photo of a nice property off of the MLS site, then wrote an ad for CL. The scam part is where a prospective renter uses the "convenient on-line form" to provide all of their personal info AND a credit card number. The scammer then goes shopping on your card....

Ya gotta beware.

I find the Denver CL is terrible for those looking to rent from a private party. The majority of the ads are mass listings from apartment complexes that then direct you to their website. So, for those looking to rent from a private party, not so good. For those looking to live at a huge complex, you might as well just go to Google and search "Denver apartment complexes".

One tip for those selling merchandise on CL. Always say first come first serve. There are tons of flakes that will offer to buy your stuff and not show up, or not respond to your email, after they already asked you to hold the item for them.
