My fiance mother lives in Trinidad colorado and we visit frequently. She wants to be close to her mother which I understand. I love colorado and want to make the move but I would be leaving behind my family and a good paying job (28.00 an hour)

We are from Minnesota and I have a bachelors degree in psychology along with a 2 year degree in criminal justice. I am also a certified firefighter in the state of Minnesota along with previous EMT experience. I am also a veteran of the armed forces.

Just wondering, in peoples opinion, how long it would take to find a job and what location would be the best to get my feet into the job market?

Have you thought about applying for State Probation jobs? Male Probation Officers are needed in rural offices. I would look at the State Board and begin applying. Just a thought.

Are you looking to move to Trinidad? What line of work specifically? I can tell you Police/EMT/Fire are all pretty difficult to get on with in Las Animas Co. I have family down there in all 3. With your education/experience, might be able find something with CDOC. They have a facility up Hwy 350 near Model Co but I can almost guarantee you won't be making 28 and hr. Had a cousin working there, said it sucked, transferred up to Ordway, then left for the Texas oil fields. If you are in decent shape, Pioneer Natural Resources is drilling/frac'ing down on the Raton Basin and may be able to get on with them; if they are hiring (also, see #2. below).

Here's my take:

1. Employment is sparse here in SoCo and gets much worse the further south you go.

2. Cronyism and nepotism are a way of life down here.

3. 58K a year is big dinero south of exit 116.

Good luck!
