Hi there I'm moving to Monte Vista next Summer and I would Love some positive input as far as Doctors and How far I have to go. I've done my research and understand I may need to learn some Spanish but feel it would be great for my Son. The Schools and Town itself sound wonderful with lots of activities and Love and I'm a country girl who wouldn't mind the drive once a month to the bigger department stores etc. I'm Disabled and have called the local agencies who have been very helpful but I'm hearing nightmares about the oil companies taking towns over and read something about a water ban but not sure if it was this area. So if you have any information about exactly how far I will be from things including Drs involved in prescribing medical marijuana or CBD oil for children and Adults. I'm moving there on a Wish and a prayer but for my Sons sake we have to go.
God Bless,
Al

No replies here so far so I thought I'd make a phone call.

I talked to a couple of employees of the the city itself (sorry, I forgot the names.) I was 99% sure there wasn't much of an energy presence in the Monte Vista area and I was told there wasn't. According to the city manager I talked to their medical clinic is downtown, just east of the city employees building. I forgot to ask him about the MMJ issue, with this town I'm guessing not. They'd be happy to ask other ??'s you would have, their phone number is 719-852-2692.

Regarding house rentals, he told me Century 21 gets into property management but he wasn't sure to what level. As far as buying a home, I went to Realtor.com and found a few listings for well under 100K. Chances are good they are older homes as I didn't dig all that deep in the listings.

Monte Vista doesn't get a lot of print on the Colorado forum but I've always liked the Del Norte/Monte Vista area. We used to have a few City Data people who lived there but they haven't posted in a long time. I'm sure the folks you talked to said that the winters are purty durn cold! But the summers are pleasant, you have a good size temperature swing as the highs in the summer could hit over 90 with the lows generally topping out at 50, sometimes 45.

Hope this helps some. Good luck!

I used to live in Monte Vista and my experience was it was a nice place to visit but not live in. No quality healthcare exists. Had a loved one transported to Pueblo for cardiology care.
No real jobs there. Crime rate per capita is among highest in state. Drug and alcohol problems. Theft, robbery, burglery remarkably high for a town its size (4400)
Anyone wanting to live there needs to think twice.

About 9 months ago I had a phone call from someone in that area asking me if I was interested in a homicide case. I told them my retainer fee. They hung up.
