I was told today that if you have any kind of auto accident, the next time you renew your driver's license you are required to take a written test.

I haven't had any accidents, but I am curious -- is that true?

I don't know because I haven't had an accident neither and thusly don't care.

Myhusband had a small accident last year and had to renew his license this year. No test required. Just the torture of waiting 4 hours at the DMV.

After dealing with unprepared drivers on the way home tonight it makes me realize that your concern could not possibly be true or all the dmvs in Colorado would have a perpetual line going outside of the buildings all year long.

As I understand, it depends on the severity of the infraction. Being cited for a non-injurious accident (tapping a bumper of the car in front of you when the freeway came to a stop) vs. being charged with running a stop sign and smacking a school bus. Both my wife and I had minor accidents within the last 3 years and neither of us had to test. We even renewed on-line.

Same here. We never got an email or letter telling us it was time, we had to know when our's expired and take action at the first of the month. It was a great convenience to do this online vs going to the DMV or other local offices.

Believe me, we would have renewed online as well but you can only do that so many times before you have to go in.
