Default Douglas County Democrats set caucus locations

The Douglas County Democratic Party has finalized its caucus locations for 2008. All caucuses will occur on February 5, 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

In Colorado, the caucus is the only primary vote to nominate party candidates for president of the United States. The caucus is also where you elect delegates to represent you in nominating all other candidates for Federal, state, and county public offices, and to oversee the operations of the party. It is also the first step in writing the party platform.

Anticipating exceptionally high turnout, 17 locations have been reserved around the county, all in schools.

On the party web site, Douglas County Democrats - Home, you can find the caucus agenda, the rules, and a diagram of the nominating process. You can verify your party registration, find your precinct number, and then get an address and map for the correct caucus location.

In order to vote, you must have been registered as a Democrat in Colorado as of December 5, 2007. If you have recently moved, you must caucus with the precinct where you are registered as of January 7.

Yes that's right. The caucus is our primary election for president. There is a primary election on August 12, but it is for every office except president.

A joke, of course, but you sent me googling. How many democrats are there in Douglas County, anyway? Here's what I found, at http://www.coloradodems.org/~douglas/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemi d=76

The Douglas County Democratic Party was established in 1956, as a subdivision of the Colorado Democratic Party. It is now the fastest-growing population of Democrats in the nation, a vibrant community-spirited organization.
Over the years, the party has grown and evolved from the original "two Douglas County Democrats" to more than 30,000 registered Democrats. We continue to grow and promote candidates for public office, and provide a forum for issues and ideas which we believe to be of benefit to all citizens of Douglas County.

hey, last time tom tancredo ran, he had 40% or so voting for the other guy. many of those were dems I suspect. Heck, we moved here and we're two and a half dems (my three year old is a big obama fan, lol, so she's the half). my dem sis and dad moved here as well, but they're over the line in littleton so they don't count .

my dh and I will definitely be there feb 5th with bells on.

Thanks for posting this info. I'm new here, and had no idea. See you on the 5th. Unfortunately, my DH won't claim a party, so it's just me!
