What do you love and hate about living in Colorado? (Denver: school districts, income)

What it is losing the fastest--it's uncluttered mountain vistas, open spaces, wild places, and colorful natural and historical heritage. There is still much of that in Colorado, but it is disappearing at an alarming rate.

The fact that I can see the mountains from my balcony and living room windows and can be up there in under 20 minutes. And if I look the other way during the Summer I can see the magnificent dark skies and lightning flashes over eastern Colorado and Kansas when the thunderstorms hit. I wish they'd send those over here tho.

Denver has the most beautiful summers, perfect temperatures, afternoon thunderstorms that add interest (as long as my car doesn't get hail damage!), beautiful green against the blue sky and purple mountains.

It also makes me really happy to live in a place that puts emphasis on smart and sustainable urban planning (Fastracks, transit oriented developments, walkable new communities, the revitalization of downtown).

I moved here from Phoenix which has turned into an endless expanse of sprawl--ugly with no character, alienating and polluted with a joke for public transit. It makes me terribly sad to go back there--I'm a native. I feel Denver especially is planning for the future in a smart way and it makes me proud to live here (not to say we don't have problems in this area, but the progress is encouraging).

Lots of high paying jobs per capita.
Affordable housing.
High percentage of good school districts.
No traffic.
Perfect weather May through November; Interesting weather other times.
Country living close to jobs, metros, and amenities.
Tollway 470.
Pikes Peak Library District.
Fresh air.
The view of Pikes Peak.
Manitou Springs
Iced cold well water in August.

Well I can't quite top Charles' post, but:

Colorado is 1/3 public lands.
Denver has all the big city amenities one could ask for.
The mountains are the prettiest mountains I've ever seen.
Have you smelled the mountains here? Especially in September? It will bring tears to your eyes.
Colorado has the slimmest people in the US.
Rarified air: an astronomy lover's dream come true.

1. All the 4 seasons that we get every year
2. Mountains
3. No Humidity
4. People, Open Space, and cost of living.
