1) Current City and State = Fort Salonga (Northport) New York
2) Why do you want to leave = Many reasons. Colorado looks SOOOO beautiful. I love nature and wide open space. Love the sun year round. Want some adventure and a change from the place that I have grown up. I love the fact that my wife wants to leave here too. Biggest reasons are that it looks beautiful, has tons of nature available and is something new
3) Where In Colorado and Why = Where in Colorado? You tell me... Don't know. Haven't even been there yet. My wife and I just seem to know that it's the place we want to be. Have looked online and the forums. Want somewhere in the hills. Not too suburban. A little bit more rural, but yet somewhat upscale mountain living. I want some space and property, with views and no neighbor that I can whisper to from my back deck. Looking at outskirts of Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder etc... Really not sure. From looking online, Evergreen area seems nice, but I have no clue really.
4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = None. It's been thought out. If we don't find what we want in Colorado, we're staying on Long Island.
5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = Not much. Some financial settling after the wedding, new house here and getting ready for a baby. Also haven't even looked at Colorado yet.
6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? =
I'm 32, wife is 28. We both work in healthcare. We have a baby on the way and are recently married. Both grew up on Long Island. Will be looking for a house anywhere in the 300-700K range in Colorado, depending on what we can get for the money and where. Easy to re-locate job-wise. Just some planning needed.

You need to get out here and look around. As I said on your other thread, it's different than NY. Not so many little towns in the mtns where you'd actually live. Most are ski resorts.
Also, health care is different here, too. I am an RN. I was used to filling out an app, talking to the DON, and being asked "Can you start yesterday?". It's not like that here. There are many transplants with the same job skills here. I'd start looking at availablity of jobs in your field.

1) Current City and State = I'm currently in Tampa Fl. (4yrs), Native Californian
2) Why do you want to leave = Not what we were looking for in every way; people, lack of values, crime, schools. Too bad since we love the topography and Gulf
3) Where In Colorado and Why = Colorado Springs or Castle Rock. Open space, good schools, and more like minded people. We visited already and although we are more ocean people than mountain people the quality of family life, sense of community, and activity choices outweigh that.
4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = Florida, which we have ruled out. Wisconsin - We have family there. Wisconsin is truely the "all American" state and is beautiful, fun, and a lot of family activities (Lakes, "football", good food). To bad it has severe weather issues or we would be there.
5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = We have businesses/real estate we have to sell. As soon as something goes, we are on our way and planning to rent before starting our business or buying a house.
6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? = Like most people looking into Colorado, it seems to offer the lifestyle and weather that families are looking for. I say families because if I were single Colorado would not attract me.

1) Current City and State = New York, NY
2) Why do you want to leave = We want a house, a yard, a dog, a grill, to raise kids where they can have all of those things and ride their bikes.
3) Where In Colorado and Why = Fort Collins, because we never thought of leaving NYC till we visited FoCo and fell in love. We bike and it is such an amazingly bike friendly town. We have family in nearby Cheyenne. We will be able to afford a home there, etc., etc.
4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = There is no such thing for us being that we didn't set out to move in the first place.
5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = Lease, saving money. We'll be there in May.
6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? = I'm looking forward to moving and am really hoping we won't have a tough time making new friends. Also, we both work from home and our jobs will come with us, so no, we are not worried about the mentioned lack of job opportunities in FoCo.

1) Current City and State = San Jose, CA
2) Why do you want to leave = Way too expensive and crowded here. Just tired of it.
3) Where In Colorado and Why = Palmer Lake. Because I can. Also, I have family there, I love it there, and I already own a house there.
4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = Central CA, Hawaii (they're also way too expensive)
5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = My stuff is here and I have things to do before I go.
6) Anything else you want to tell us that we don't know? = The moving truck carts our stuff away on Oct. 20th. We'll follow immediately. Just in time for winter. Can't wait.

My wife is also an RN, in critical care so I will take your advice. I'm a Physician Assistant and have seen quite a few well-paying jobs in the classifieds. I will still certainly look and get jobs BEFORE we move, if we are to move. Is there not a nursing shortage in Denver/Colorado as well? Your are right that here in New York, the jobs are plentiful. Is there saturation in the nursing field there?

Hi, Reply only if you have time.
The short and sweet on getting into nursing school. So far it seems to be luck. long wait or very costly.
Another possibilty is school overseas. My wife is from Philippines. The nursing schools are decent.
Thanks, Bob
Oh , You mentioned nursing school in a post. That promped my post.

The nursing job market is not as tight as in many other cities. There are tons of transplants here who are willilng to work crap hours, etc, just to live in CO. Good jobs can be found, but they take looking for. This is particularly true beyond the "new grad" level. A critical care nurse may have more options.
