Dillon, CO
Hey all,
I am new here and this is my first post! Anyways, I am going to be going to Breckenridge in March with some friends. I will be staying in Dillon for 4 days. I am just curious as to how Dillon is and what anyone can tell me about it. Also, any good recommendations for places to eat or go out, in either Breckenridge or Dillon. I will be going with a group of friends, and meeting up with a lady friend...I think I will be going out with her one night...so any good place for that? Thanks!

Dillon is basically a combination of strip malls and condos. Only about 10-15 minutes to Keystone, and a little bit more to A-Basin. About 25-30 minutes to Breck -- several routes -- I-70 to Highway 9, Dillon Dam Road to Highway 9, or Swan Mtn Road to Highway 9.
For eating, there's Dillon Dam Brewery which is always popular and packed to the rafters, and the Red Mountain Grill next door (quieter/nicer decor/atmosphere). Nozawa's is the new sushi/Asian place next to City Market - very good. There's a new place called Malbec that just opened up next to Nozawa, but haven't been there. The Office Max strip mall has some good places (more local spots): JJ Chinese, Jersey Boys, Sunshine Cafe. Arapahoe Cafe in Dillon (next to the post office) has good breakfast too. In Frisco, the new Himalayan, Boatyard, and Tuscato are our favorites.
For high-end/fancy dining, you're better off going to Keystone or Breck. The Keystone Ranch (in Keystone obviously) and Hearthstone in Breck always top the local restaurant lists.
This is what Lake Dillon looks like in the summer:

Closed, rarely. If all roads between Dillon and Breck are closed, many of the lifts (at least the good ones) will also be closed. 70 between Dillon and Frisco (where you get off to get to Breck) is almost always open (even when 70 is shut down, local traffic is allowed). The Dam road is closed sometimes due to blowing snow. Swan Mtn is pretty good about staying open. The only high school in Summit County is near Breck -- so they always clear the roads to get to the high school from other towns first.
Now do the roads get bad? Absolutely. But do we still get around? Of course. You just have to drive carefully.
In March, it's pretty warm and the sun is out a lot, so the roads tend to improve pretty quickly.

Dillon is like the working crowd's town: nice, but not as much 'fun' as the others. It's a great experience walking the 2 or 3 blocks in the center of Breckenridge or Frisco and sticking your head into the bar or restaurant that's making the loudest noise. That's what we do.
It's hard to recommend one not knowing your style. You usually get a feel of the place by looking at the menu. We often end up at the Gold Pan or the Horseshoe, but not necessarily for their food.
Also, bus service is excellent. Perfect for going out and not worrying about drinking. Not that we're big party'ers, but when you're out with friends, it's easy to lose count when they just keep bringing pitchers (or carafes).

I lived in Dillon (worked at Keystone) in the mid 80's. Does anyone know if the ODI (Old Dillon Inn) is still around? That was always a great place to go.

Hi, my name is Mike and I own a small commercial residential carpentry buisness, we are currently located in Troy, MI but would like to expand to the Dillon Colorado area, is there much buisness out there?
