We currently live in KC and looked at house in Evergreen this weekend. It looked like Kitteredge was pretty kid-centric. Is this true? We also looked in the Bergen Park area which also looks pretty kid-centric. Could someone tell me about any neighborhoods where there is a "kid-community" where kids play outside. It seems like most neighborhoods are pretty spaced out and hard to find lots of kids in one area. I have a 10 year old who can play outside our home with 6 to 8 of his friends. Is there anywhere in Evergreen that is possible or will we need to use the Rec Center and other activities for entertainment? We did take him snowboarding and I think he would love that.
Also, will anyone please give me their experience with kids in Evergreen? Is is easy to meet other kids and couples with kids? We have a 1, 3, and 10 year old. Thanks for your input. |

Having kids in your direct neighborhood/street is hit and miss. I have lived in two different places in Evergreen and the first place there weren't too many kids and this last time there are many kids right on our street that my kids play with.
Meeting other families is very easy and is done mostly through your kids school and activities. Most people in Evergreen will be just like you. Someone that has moved here from somewhere else with a family/kids. Everyone is very friendly and since most people have relocated here from somewhere else, they want to meet people and do things etc....My kids have never had a problem making friends and having play dates. Adults get together too etc.... Quote:

I lived in Indian Hills for nine years. The reason we moved, and my husband was not happy about it, was that you drive everywhere and/or you have to let your kids drive. The only place in Evergreen that I know is there is a suburban like area near Evergreen high school that seems neighborhood like. There may also be areas in Conifer like that, with new construction. Best bet is to look for one of those (to me) dreadful "enclaves" where the age of the housing is approximate to what your kids would be now. Thus: a ten year old subdivision. You will need to use the rec center type thing for the most part.

I"ve heard that Bergen Park Area and Ketteridge areas have lots of kids. Can anyone confirm this?

I wouldn't say one area has more kids than others with any certainty.
One street in Bergen park could have a family with kids in every house and the next street over its only half the houses. If you are planning on buying a house, I would rent first so that you will have plenty of time to look around, get a feel etc.... Almost every single person I know that bought right away/before they moved, after six months, wished they would of bought in a different subdivision. |

I agree High Altitude about renting first. That's sound advice regardless of where you move to.
