j_rode, getting back to your original question. Housing at the ski towns is extremely difficult in the winter. Most people who own condos rent them out as vacation rentals because they can get more money. Housing for employees is something that all the ski towns struggle with. People have to commute great distances to find a place to live. The best thing to do would be to come out in the off-season, i.e., not winter or summer, to try to find housing and a job that isn't tourism related. Or, as an alternate, there are a lot of small mountain towns that are not ski areas. Of course, those towns have very few jobs because they have no economic base.
