I have a resentment against the Book Cliffs because my Explorer broke down there once before I even had the chance to see the nice parts. I had to hike 12 miles out before I could find help. However, I do love the Colorado National Monument, myself.

Which western CO small-to-medium towns would you say are more Libertarian? The people around us are the most important factor involved when determining where we relocate. Thanks for all the great info on this thread.

Most places on western slope are pretty much live and let live, though you might want to stay out of the resort towns. Westcliffe, Silverton, Meeker, Cedaredge, Pagosa Springs, Craig, Montrose could be good candidates depending on preferred size. Maybe Rifle, Kremmling, Ridgway, Lake City, Buena Vista or Dolores. Crawford, Creede, Saguache and Naturita are other small town possibilities.

While I really like the area around Grand Junction, I am not a huge fan of GJ itself. I think a large part of it is the apparent lack of urban planning in GJ which has lead to a really poorly laid out and not particularly livable city. Due to the sprawl it seems like the downtown has not been able to thrive. As a result there isn't a hub attract more interesting local dinning and retail options.

I spent my first eighteen years in GJ. My Dad always said it was a paradise for him and perhaps some day I too would appreciate the town. Like most of my highschool classmates I left GJ for college and career. I retired from my corporate life a few months ago and now have a home based business to supplement my retirement.

The pros to living in GJ: fishing, hiking, rafting, biking, skiing,golf, takes 15 minutes to get anywhere, low cost of housing, very few lines at any stores

The cons: difficult to travel to and from-regional airport with limited flights, long drives to Denver/Salt Lake City-, too few resturants, too many pickups, broadband is spotty, too few white collar jobs in the valley.

If you have a home based business and want a more balanced life style then, check out GJ.
