Default Heating/ Gas Bill 3,000 sq ft- Castle Rock

I will be moving to Castle Rock soon and was wondering how much I could expect to pay to heat a newer 3,000 sq ft home in Castle Rock. I did a search on here but am interested in specifics

Also, how much is your average electric bill during this period?

for specifcs you can call xcel energy (provided that xcel & not IREA is the provider) and give them the property address ask for a high/low/average.

My last bill for electricity/gas combined was $240 to heat about 3000 sq. feet. This includes 900 ft. of finished basement to get the 3000 total, if that makes any difference. This is in Denver, but I'd guess CR would be about the same.

We pay around 120/mo to heat and provide electricity for our new as of September 3600 square foot home.

In theory our on demand water heater saves some; and the additional money we put into the place to insulate helps out.

Thermostat is set to 71 for the morning, 70 for the rest of the day, 69 at night. Two adults, one teen and two < 4.

I will caveat this with the knowledge that Excel continues to raise rates seemingly every month, so who knows what the future brings. Much to the same extent, Denver overall saved water when we were asked to and now as a result we all pay higher water bills.

How do you get it that low? We set our thermostat about the same as you. We do have a refrigerator, deep freezer in the garage, a wine cooler, 2 flat screen tvs (off during the day). I know one negative is that we get hardly any direct sunlight in the house in the winter - most windows face north and east.

The place was built very tight. Our HERS test came back in the 40's. We also have all CFL's and the afformentioned on demand water heater which cuts down on costs.

What is the HERS Index? : ENERGY STAR

For what it is worth when I run the 1970s beer cooler (Pepsi vending machine in the garage) our bill spikes up 20 or so a month more in electricity.

We now have a 3700 sf house, full garden level lower, plus one and one half upper, all single pane lots of windows (!!) in Denver and our bill last month was, no joke, $400. I guess we should have done some efficiency work this fall. Built in the energy guzzling 80s but I still love it better than the insulated warm cozy 50s ranch with doublepanes we recently gave up.
