How is I-70 later in the ski season? I'm going up to Loveland and A-Basin this month, is it anything like Feb. or March?

It does depend on new snowfall. Now, it's warmer, so rain and slush, then overnight freezing make the going a bit slow. That's if it does snow. Otherwise the roads are dry.

Weekday traffic is minimal, though there is a lot of construction through the Idaho Springs area, that for some reason, COTRIP.ORG (state highway dept) doesn't mention. Eastbound is usually 1 lane for most of the day, which makes it a PITA.

The frontage road along I-70 works well when traffic is snarled, especially if the roads are dry. Most people just elect to sit on I-70. Take the Empire Exit (240, I think) and drive east to Downieville and Dumont. Cross under the highway at the truck stop (Dumont) and pick up frontage road again on the north side of I-70. Once past Dumont, you pass over I-70 and run along Clear Creek until Idaho Springs. No way on or off I-70 till then. Use either the Highway 103 ramps in the middle of town, or drive through to the east side of town to get back onto I-70. Google maps correctly shows the route. I like to be prepared so I don't just wait in traffic.

Weekend traffic should be pretty light, though I don't drive I-70 on weekends any more, ever. You may encounter some traffic on the way East to Denver, but it shouldn't be too bad. Having dinner at the slopes and traveling later will mean clear sailing. Since it's spring, most people don't like the "icy" conditions in the morning, so drive up a bit later. Plan on getting to your area 1/2 hour before the lifts open, and the traffic should be very light.

Do you mean on the weekend? Typically not a big issue this time of year. Spring breaks are over, resorts are closing.
Check Go I70 for info - they do a weekend travel forecast: GOI70 :: Travel Forecast

Great that's exactly the information I am looking for. We're going up to Loveland and A-Basin on different weekends from Colorado Springs.
